The IO26 doesn't need a multimix frontend anyway if you are mixing in the box using plugins, as most home based musicians/producers do. RME's converters are better but you'd be hard pressed to hear it in a busy rock or electronica mix. The converters in the IO14 and 26 are actually very good for that price range, certainly better than most m-audio or similar priced items. I'm thinking of the $400 Alesis 26io but don't know if it's quite good enough, honestly i don't mind spending a little more, but the RME are so high priced and i've heard of Macbook firewire chip issues, and not too sure if they've been resolved yet. I had an 828mk3, but it was a total piece of crap and had to send it back. Got lots'o stuff, but no audio interface to bring it all together. In my case the gear was causing my room to get extra hot as well. I have found that getting too much gear and looking catalogs of new gear totally disrupts the creative flow. LOLДЄll good though, i'm totally a worshiper of materialism, hopefully i can use these tools for something good.ДЄny more feedback is very much appreciated. i am officially a bum, after $1300 for my mac book, $1300 for a RME fireface, plus all the thousands of dollars i have in gear, I pretty much have no life. the price is intimidating, and i've heard of problems with macbooks firwire chip set and the RME firefaces. Definately a cut above the average M-Audio etc. It's not in the league of say an RME interface but is very good value at the price. The MIDI also works very good either on Direct Music or MME.

Very solid unit, maybe not the best portable choice for DJs as it weighs quite a bit but for a home studio setup I would recommend it. (we are talking 20-25% better performance) Just be sure to download the latest drivers, the ones that came with the unit CD have been vastly improved in terms of performance.

I'm running it on PC laptop on a 6 pin to 4 pin mini FW cable with the power adapter, it does occasionally drop out with heavy load (as any interface does) and if I knock the FW cable accidentally (I think the cable I have is a bit dodgy) it occasionally drops out but other than that it is great. It is really good, the pres are great, lots of headroom and good s/n stats. I got mine on sale at Christmas at an insanely low price. I have the IO14 which is the same but with 4 pres instead of 8, 2 outs instead of 8 and no phono input.
